COACHING AND MENTORING
Family Coaching
Parenting is the hardest work we do, but the most rewarding when relationships thrive. By understanding how your instincts equip you for a strong parenting role, and how to lead your family from the foundation of connection, you can thrive confidently as a parent. My desire is to coach parents so that the whole family functions from a place of optimal emotional well-being. I use material from Dr. Gordon Neufeld as my primary source, pairing it with the work of other child development specialists.
Grief and Loss
One of the most essential pieces of emotional well-being is the ability to move through our emotions with authenticity. Whether your losses are big or small, traumatic or part of every-day life, having support for times of grief and sorrow is important. I do short term coaching for grief and loss as well as debriefings for traumatic events.
Cross-Cultural Living
Having grown up in a two-culture home, located in a third culture, living with a combination of cultures is my “normal”. I also moved overseas as a young mom and brought up four children in a difficult location, homeschooling my kids while learning the local language and engaging in social life with friends from the culture where we lived. Having a mentor who listens as you navigate some of the intricacies of living cross-culturally is useful. Sometimes getting the perspective of an outside observer is also an asset. I have experience with doing that for women who are navigating the choppy waters of adapting to the many unknowns of living cross-culturally.
Bilingual Family Growth
I grew up in a bilingual context and learned a third language in college from a textbook. I then went on to learn another language “on the go” by moving to Hungary in 1988, teaching English there for one year. I returned to Canada and went on to earn an MA in Speech-Language Pathology with a special interest in language acquisition. After I got married, I moved to North Africa and our family learned a dialect of Arabic together. There are so many nuances to learning language, but at the heart of my support for families living overseas is my belief that language is what gives us capacity for relationship. Being connected to a new language is part of building connection to a new culture.
Spiritual Companionship
Self awareness and reflection are two of the keys to spiritual growth and well-being. Having someone to talk to about your journey as a spiritual being is important. Often this person only needs to ask a question or two and the conversation deepens and becomes a rich place of insight and encouragement. Spiritual well-being and emotional growth go hand-in-hand, so much of what I bring to this conversation is informed by a solid understanding of the developmental insights I’ve learned from Dr. Gordon Neufeld.
Marriage Mentoring
Most marriages reach an impasse once in a while—some get stuck there for a season. If you would like to have support and accountability in how you are conversing with your spouse or partner, there is an option for getting that kind of coaching from a mediator-informed perspective. This is a unique offer to support a partnership to grow in connection through clearer communication with the insights and accountability of an experienced mentor.
Author to Production
Writing a book has one set of challenges. If you love to write you may only need a conversation or two to keep your momentum going. Getting a manuscript ready to publish is another matter. If you have never done this, you will probably be looking for someone to give you some coaching or more practical help. Marketing and getting the word out is another set of skills. We have a set of coaches that are experienced and may be of help. Contact us.
