What is a Story-Listening Partnership, anyway? If you've never heard of this, and you want to learn more—WELCOME!

I had never heard of a "story-listening partnership" before either...this name is my own invention. But it's something I have done many times in live workshops, so we will engage in it via zoom, combining some explanation/teaching and then sharing in small groups. We will explore a topic first, for maybe 25 minutes, and then in small groups we can choose what to share of our own stories with each other. We will aim for 90 minute sessions which you can freely leave early if you can't spare more than an hour.

I chose "story-LISTENING" rather than story telling because it emphasizes the need we all have to uncover our own story for those who willingly and compassionately witness what we have lived. We all need this, whether that story is dramatic, traumatic or not particularly riveting. We've all encountered things in life that left us wondering, or hoping, or despairing. Everyone's story is valid—it doesn't have to be the stuff of movie plots to be important or worth hearing about.

Most importantly, we don't come together to fix each other or to offer advice. If people want that style of service, they probably won't come here. So that is the staple of the time we spend together: feeling seen, being heard, having a witness to our story (big or small). Offering one another the invitation to exist in our presence.

These FRIDAY@NOON groups are for people of all ages. You may feel you have told your stories before but you want to hear and learn from others, or meet some people with similar backgrounds. You may find that there are stories inside of you that you have never explored, never fully mined the meaning of what happened. There is no formula for how to do this—you just need listeners. Some people may prefer to write things down, others may be concise, or art may even become part of your journey. It is a wide space that we want to make for ourselves and each other.

These times are linked to a small fee—the price of a coffee in a Western country. If you have no way to pay for this and want to contact me, you can do that. I don't want anyone to be excluded, but I need to pay for my garden seeds (I stopped drinking coffee, but I do grow veggies and flowers, so I need my life to carry on). You will receive the instructions for signing in to the group at the appointed time once you have joined my support group on Ko-fi, and I will send out a reminder email.

If you have read all this and you don't want to come to a group but you want to support me in this work of listening and reflecting and supporting others, feel free to join the support group on Ko-fi for the benefit of someone else!

RE-TURNED Story Listening
for expats who have returned to their "home" country
Dec 10,17, & Jan 7,14,21

"Welcome home," everyone said. And it felt all wrong. The dissonance was deafening—all the things about "home" you just left behind were losses...and you felt like a stranger back in a daze.

None-the-less, you are back in the country you grew up in, your passport "home"...and you need to survive. If no one quite understands, and every day brings a different level of challenge and loss, we get it.

Join us to discuss these challenges and share your story. There is no way to fix how you feel or speed the process along. We all adapt at our own rate.

But talking about your stories, telling someone who isn't perplexed by why you feel at-odds, recognizing what is happening for you and others...all of this is helpful and gives some light to your pathway. You do have a future, just for now, you need to focus on the present journey and be kind to yourself. We'll help with that.

Growing Resilience Story-Listening
for anyone who wants to cultivate emotional maturity  Coming in Feb 2022

The first Friday of each month at noon in my time zone (Calgary, Canada, Mountain Time), we will meet to discuss ways to grow and live whole-heartedly with resilience. It won't be skills or habits we talk about but rather the inner workings of our hearts that keep us engaged reflectively in our own lives and the lives of those around us.

We will take a look at how emotions work and sometimes how we need to work with them with a little more awareness. And we will discuss three life rhythms that support and help develop greater resilience: rest, play and paying attention to our feelings.  On this topic I will follow the materials of Dr. Gordon Neufeld for inspiration. The videos I've done on instincts will help set you up for this, but are not required for understanding or attending this group.

And, of course, there will be a chance to talk about your own story if you want to in a small group. This is not therapy—it is a group that is there to listen and be a witness to what your life is about. What matters is that you will be among friends.

Always a TCK Story-Listening
for Third Culture Kids who are now adults
Coming in March 2022

The third Friday of each month, at the same time, I invite you to come if you are an adult TCK (Third Culture Kid). If your parents lived in a country that was not the culture of their origin, you likely became familiar with a culture that "hung between" the local culture and the culture of your parent's home country. Your identity probably evolved around issues shared by other TCKs.

If you have never heard of this term "TCK", check it out, there are several books on Amazon. One of the primers of this genre is this one by Van Reken, Pollack and Pollack. https://www.amazon.com/Third-Culture-Kids-Experience-Growing-ebook/dp/B004774S1O/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=Third+Culture+Kids&qid=1622670405&sr=8-1.  But there are others you may want to see who write to your style.

We will focus on one issue of this "between cultures" lifestyle and then share our stories in a small group. Your story may or may not follow the theme of the month, it doesn't matter. What matters is that you will be among friends!
